Saracens Women's Rugby Club
I've been fortunate enough to work alongside the Saracen's Women's Rugby Club, covering a majority of their away fixtures over the 2024/25 season.
Covering the fixtures means I'm there early, getting photos of the grounds and setting the scene before the main fixture. The brief can vary between fixtures, from shots of the grounds where the game will commence, or promotional material for the PWR (Premier Women's Rugby League), and getting shots of the kit before they're covered in mud. These photos were used throughout social media to keep fans updated as to the status of the game.
Warming Up
The most important part of rugby - the players themselves! Now they've arrived the focus shifts, now i'm looking for the photos of the players interacting with each other, interacting with the coaches. Looking to capture the atmosphere surrounding them and hopefully lots of happy faces, regardless of the weather.
I will have these photos edited as the players are still warming up, so they may be shared, allowing supporters who are unable to attend the game in person to stay connected, and feel like they are still there with their team supporting them through.
Kick Off!
The whistle goes, and the players are off. Below are a selection of photos from mid match, where trying to show the emotion and competition behind the scenes.
Try!
Capturing the key moments in the game is paramount, and these shots will be used to promote the team and players. Here shows the match day books, where the team get to highlight their previous games, and a good shot of a try will always be appreciated by the players and the team.
The Last Whistle
Is it heartbreak or victory? Emotions at the end of 80 minutes will be at an all time high, or low. At these moments the sportsmanship is shown, congratulations are bestowed upon the winning team, as they shake each others hands. Then it turns to consolidation and analysis of what when wrong - or more hopefully, the victory and the joy of reining victorious over the opposition.
The Match Recap
I am working alongside the media team, and after the match is over, they already have a match report up and ready, with the photos from the game to accompany it.
Working with the team over a multitude of fixtures led to experimentation and the opportunity to shoot a few matches on film at the same time.
After the game is finished and the players are heading home, you can only be left hoping they managed to get a good result, or have the mindset to come back next week even stronger.
