Panoramic Film Photography

Obviously, it isn't possible just to shoot 35mm film in a medium format camera, so the use of adapters was a necissaty. To ensure I could get the most out of a roll of film I used a pre exposed roll to compute how many winds it took to advance the film a frame. This allows me to wind the camera on to prime the shutter, then wind a second time to advance the film.

I was fortuante that my Zenza Bronica EC allows for this dual motion, otherwise I would not have been able to get these results.

After the film was loaded up into the camera it was just like shooting any other roll of film. I chose to try it with XP2 Super, a film stock I know to be very leineient for exposure - just allowing me to spend more of the time focusing on the composition of the shot.

Whilst I could have printed out a guide for the area being captured on film, this was not something I had done, therefore all of the shots are guessed to get the correct composition. This wasn't too bad as I just knew that the focus was very central.

Black and White film, London Architecture just works fantastically - I'd just wish the weather was more stormy, as that would have given rich and deep clouds to sit above the scenes. I guess it just means I'll have to get another roll of film loaded into the camera.

You may notice a biased for portrait photos, this is from the camera running the film from bottom to top, and it became slightly unwieldy to hold the camera out to the side in order to get a landscape shot. This extra restriction worked out fantastically though as it meant I was working to a single focal length and a set orientation, forcing me to look and se photo opportunities in these situations.

After the first roll of film, I loaded up an expired roll of 35mm Slide film. This had expired in early 2000s, so colours are no guarantee, and as a result I did not get as many good shots (Some colours didn't render onto the film, leading to the shots lacking much o an impact) However the couple which did work are included in the small gallery below.

I will likely be doing this again, and either adding more photos to this gallery, or might even make a new blog post.
